One of my favourite windows

top

One of my favourite stories from the Bible gave the theme for one of my favourite windows by Marga. The theme is the Parable of the Prodigal Son and the window is one of two excellent examples of Marga's work at St Mary's, Lanark. A third, recorded as being made for the "Hospital" in Lanark, I have not yet traced.

The window is full of fun and humour as well as artistry and devotion. I like the way the Prodigal's dog keeps cropping up in the story, the demurely riotous ladies, the far-from-pleased elder son standing in the doorway at the feast, but most of all the miserable Prodigal tending swine.

A miniature version appears on the right and a series of enlargements below.
